69
Yes 69. I actually mean people's perception and views on life's topic. Depending on which position you view the number 6 from it could appear as 9 or 6. Someone viewing your 6 from the tail as 9 does not make them wrong.
On the last post AFFAIRS I said the whole side chick saga reminded me of two stories. This is the second. A totally different story that happened at a different time and different place. We would tell this particular story from the man's point of view. Let's call him thomas.
Thomas loved a young girl from his teenage age. Infact his love for her was so great that he did what the next teenager won't do,he told his parents about it. They shunned him and he fell sick,he became so ill that they quickly gave in. He told this young girl how he felt and she entertained him non-committally till he went to her parents home to declare his intentions soon after their final high school exams. Her parents gave their consent but refused any marriage rites till their daughter graduated from the University. This gave Thomas great joy and like the biblical Jacob,he served her parents. He would help fetch woods, sweep the compound, help on the farm and with no grudge. He stopped his academic journey after high school and opted to learn a trade and skill,he encouraged his parents to spend the money for his education on his girlfriend instead. He would also send any little money he earned to her too, together with her parents they funded this young woman's education, the young woman by this time was madly in love with Thomas and they both restlessly waited for her to graduate so they can get married.
When this young woman went to school,Thomas didn't get to see her as often as before or as much as he would love to,but he didn't mind, instead he visited her parents every day and helped out with any available chore. Then on this fine day as he was on his way home from where he learned his trade, fate turned a new page. He got on a public bus and found himself seated beside a really beautiful girl. He said "hi"and she politely replied and looked away. She was soft-spoken. Thomas found his blood flowing faster than normal, his pulse increased so much he had a headache and he slowly began to have difficulty breathing. He wasn't ashmsthic,he couldn't explain what was happening. Another passenger got on this bus at some point and he had to shift closer to this beautiful stranger to create space for this new person. She looked at him for a brief moment and looked away and at that moment Cupid who had been observing, stood up, notched his arrow and struck. Thomas was sweating.
"Are you from around here?" He asked in hushed tones. She took forever to respond. Then she smiled and beautiful dimples appeared.
"Around where?" She asked. That was it. Like romeo realised when he met juliet,Thomas realised that his love for his girlfriend was nothing compared to this. They got off the bus together,he said the right words and they became fast friends. And soon lovers. The new woman amazed thomas every day,she was so intelligent and her beauty gave him constant fever. He slowly reduced and then stopped his visit to his old girlfriend's family house. He no longer helped her parents and when she came from school on a holiday, she met a different man.
Thomas didn't care if he was hurting anyone. His new woman was ready,he had his own business by now and wanted to get married as soon as possible. His ex girlfriend cried and tried to reason with him, thomas only got irritated with her. Her parents called for a meeting and he didn't honour it. His parents talked to him and he adamantly refused, everyone concluded that he was jinxed. His parents and siblings hated the new woman. Told her to stay away from their son. They emarrassed her and said their son will never marry her, husband snatcher, mistress, side chick were names they bestowed on her. Thomas in retaliation went with his uncles to her family's house and paid her bride price. His parents didn't attend the wedding, rather his father took some yams, gin, alligator pepper, and some coins to the ex girlfriend's house and paid her bride price the next week on behalf of his son.
Thomas said his father should have come out clean from the onset and said he needed a new wife, his father replied and said this old girl is the only daughter in-law he knows and accepts and this is the woman his son would spend the rest of his life with expect he was not his father. They had heated argument, caused and swore. The new wife tried her best to win her in-laws over to no avail. She concieved, and her in-laws hated her even more, they made the ex live with them and promised her their son will soon come to his senses.
Thomas moved out and the couple prepared to have their baby. His wife came into labor on a grey day. Thomas begged his mom to please come assist and she obliged, they went to the hospital and his wife's mother joined them. The wife travailed, and had the baby with difficulty and her last strength. She died on the delivery table. His mother took the baby, her grandson. She looked at the girl"s mother as she wailed and said.
"This is mine, take yours. To each his own" and walked out of the hospital. She went home and entrusted the baby to the other woman.
