Illegitimate sex and cheating spouses are quickly becoming a hot topic in these parts. Who is a side chick and who isn't?

These days if you make honest comments on any topic related to this on public forums. Angry wives will bare their fangs. These fangs reminded me of two stories. As usual vouria is not judging or taking sides,vouria is merely telling a story.


Side chicks,side turkeys, mistresses are nothing new. This particular event we are about to recount happened decades ago,we won't tell it from any character's POV rather we will be the eye of the gods.

In a quiet town,among several happenings and different people there was a young woman. Today we would refer to her as a young entrepreneur. She was doing very well for herself. She didn't own a degree but she had a great skill in dress making,she rented a shop and started out. Soon she had serious customers,soon she had dedicated apprentices and soon suitors started arriving. A number of men indicated or declared interest in making this young woman their wife,she politely entertained and listened to several validations of love from different men but as is usual only one man captured her heart.

This young man was doing well for him self too, had a good job,was well mannered and as was highly recommend then,came from a good family with an equally good reputation. This young couple began dating after informal visits to both families. They both were working hard and were meticulously saving for the future and marriage. Their love grew. This young lady was a caring girlfriend. She would usually visit with her man and do some chores,clean up and cook. She cooked deliciously meals,how else could she show that she won't be a lazy wife and was worth at least a hundred yards of wife material?, this continued till the festive season, and she could no longer keep up,more people wanted their dresses made for Christmas. This young woman didn't want to stop her weekend wife-material ritual so she sent her most senior apprentice to her man's house to help her. And her apprentice helped her obediently.

Three months later this apprentice began to show signs and experience symptoms. Symptoms that would bring joy to many but in this case it was a disaster,she was questioned and it turned out that indeed this apprentice helped her mistress take care of her man in all aspects,she was expecting his baby. The young mistress raged, made threats,fight her man, cried and wept bitterly but it solved nothing. Her apprentices family stood firmly behind their daughter,said she was set up and violated and she would keep the baby. Her father particularly was a difficult man. This young woman made the decision that she would not loose her man,she paid him a reconciliation visit and left with a growing embryo in her belly.

The apprentice had her baby a boy. The mistress went ahead with her marriage and had her own baby a girl. Ah! she had lost,everyone proclaimed,a girl child has no right over inheritance in Africa. This young woman hurriedly concieved another child and a few weeks after her daughter turned one,she had a boy. Everyone rejoiced with her,even her rival's father sent a congratulatory message with a gentle reminder that his grandson is first and the heir. This young woman quickly bore another son,she would not loose,and she bore another,and another. In less than six years she had four children. She was heavy with her fifth when her rival's father visited her man's father. After they exchanged pleasantries,rival's father made a simple request that this young man come marry his daughter legally. The man's father politely declined. Rival's father smiled and left. 

In all this,the young woman's husband prospered,he built a house,he started another and was having it roofed when he slept one night and never woke up. This young woman was left with five children,the apprentice and her child got all the properties as was the custom.

One of the greatest cause of strife between parents and their teenagers is freedom. The parents think perhaps they are offering too much freedom and the children think it is too little. For a single parent like the one we are going to discuss today, freedom is a big deal. They dread offering too much freedom which they suspect will negatively affect the way their teenagers turn out. Everyone has a limit to their tolerance level. How much can one person take? or can you take any at all. What is a deal breaker for you. In some marriages the deal breaker is infidelty for others it's physical abuse. For Sylvia in today's story she had little patience for violence. Sylvia was a unique young woman.
