HERALD

For most unfortunate or tragic events, you usually hear the person say, somehow they knew it will happen, they felt it. In some cases a week before these events the person feels far from normal, they suspect something is wrong, experience foreboding.

For a few others they feel nothing at all,no herald whatsoever, they feel good and fine, life is going well, then bang!!! Something bad happens,it is as jarring and shocking as a loud noise at night.

For Alexander it was the same, they had no inkling whatsoever about what would happen that weekend. Alexander was in senior high school with his twin. They were the only children of their parents who were both lawyers. These identical twins were super playful. They had little reason not to be though. They had loving parents, lived in a very happy home, were students of one of the best schools.

Alexander was the most reserved of this twin, that is, although he was jovial, free spirited and hyper, he was no where close to his brother. Pranks were a common thing in their house because of this brother. He was a tall happy and quick to laugh fellow. Alexander and his twin were friends of everyone and enemy to few. They had friends at school and anytime they got home from school they would sit on the roof top and chat and play with their neighbors. On most weekends they slept till midnight on this rooftop with no railings, they slept on yoga mats, they would chat into the night and doze off to sleep beside their neighbors.

The week went as usual for Alexander and his family. They attended Church service on Sunday, had a science  practical at school on monday, their father won a court case he defended on Tuesday, their mother got a return of investment on Wednesday, Alexander and his brother participated in a school football match on Thursday and the family prepared to hang out on the beach on Saturday. On Friday after school they accompanied their mom to the supermarket to buy things they would need for the picnic. When they got home Alexander joined his mother in the kitchen and his twin went up to the roof top to sit and chill.

At dusk Alexander joined his brother and they gloated about how many goals they had scored, to their neighbors, they booed at some of their neighbors who went to their school and belonged to the other football team. At about 8pm their mother brought up their dinner to the rooftop since they didn't come down to eat. Their neighbors joined in and together they devoured the food. Satiated they lay on their yoga mats and talked lazily about girls, impossible physics teacher and from time to time you could hear a loud laugh from the roof top, scornful or amused laugh. The night was cool and Alexander whispered to his twin that he hoped to meet a cute girl at the beach tomorrow and his brother made jokes about it. Their mother came up to ask they come down to sleep since tomorrow will be a long day,she came up twice, the second time they promised they would be down in ten minutes.

Their mother didn't come for the third time, somehow they dozed off,the cool air and silent night aided their sleep. They slept peacefully, seven boys asides these twin brothers. Then they heard a small frightened cry and a loud thud. Alexander was the first to jump up,half awake, everywhere was dark and he called out to his brother and frantically search his pockets for his phone,he lay hold of his phone and called his brother again but there was no response. He put on the flashlight of his phone,by this time the other boys were fully awake and standing tensed.

Alexander's legs trembled as he peeped over the edge of the roof top, and sure enough his brother lay far below on the concreted compound floor, the blood from his head shone as Alexander pointed his flashlight in disbelief. His twin was dead.
