LOOSING
Loosing. Have you ever lost to someone or something? How did you handle it,how did you receive the news, are you one of those resilient people that know it is ok to loose?
Humans are as different in handling failures as they are different in physical features. Kelvin in today's story was one of those who think loosing a dirty word.
Kelvin worked in a bank, owned a nice car and lived in a Fancy house, Kelvin also had a best friend from kindergarten, they have always been friends and they were flat mates. Kelvin had everything good in life, everything always fell in the right places for him, although he had a rich father,he had his own money and this tripled his self esteem.
Kelvin's best friend was a high school teacher,he was happy to have gotten that job at all when most of his course mates were having difficulty getting jobs, his friend Kelvin, was kind enough to pay more than half the rent annually,so he had little financial concerns, although he hoped for a better life,he was contented with what he had. The friendship of these two blossomed and life on well albiet without any action, for kelvin's friend though, and not him. Kelvin was an extrovert,so life was fun on his side.
One weekend kelvin's friend noticed Kelvin was unusually quiet,he brooded through out that day and when they watched football game on television that evening Kelvin was simply staring at the television instead of watching. When Kelvin's friend asked what was wrong, Kelvin promptly replied. A new girl at the bank was messing with his mind. She resumed work at the office the past week and she was all he saw,on the files on the desk at his office her face smiled up at him,her image followed him everwhere,he saw her in his tea cup and he could literally swear she had actively participated in the football game they just watched. His friend had a very good laugh and asked why he didn't tell this girl how he felt and Kelvin replied that he couldn't,there was something disarming about this young woman.
His friend made friendly jest of him the rest of the week,he stopped when he realized Kelvin was becoming withdrawn and ate very little and had quickly become irritable. Kelvin's friend was curious and asked Kelvin if he had any photo of her, Kelvin showed him one from his phone, she was smiling from the midst of other bankers. "We took that picture at the seminar we had at the office last week" Kelvin said. His friend looked from the phone to Kelvin and from Kelvin back to the phone. He could not understand what the fuzz was all about. He knew this young woman, they worshipped at the same church. She was beautiful but she was not so striking, she was like any beautiful woman you would walk past at the entrance of a shopping mall. He could not voice out his opinions though. He offered to help his friend and they made a plan.
At church his friend slowly made friends with her, when they were close enough, and he was sure she was not engaged he started to casually metion a rich friend of his that worked in a bank. Soon this young woman realized that this friend that was always featuring in her discussions with her friend from church was actually her colleague and then kelvin's friend finally broke the news that his friend was interested in having a relationship with her. On the day he made this confession this young woman blew hot and declared she would have nothing to do with a coward like Kelvin that couldn't woo a woman himself and the next week told him off at the office. Kelvin's constant gifts and nice gestures didn't palacate her or change her opinion of him.
A few months later this woman confessed that she had began to see her future husband in her dream and it was kelvin's friend, and kelvin's friend who had grown to love her in these previous months didn't mind being her husband, the problem was Kelvin and how he would handle it. He was no coward though, so on one fine Sunday morning,he skipped church service and sat Kelvin down and explained the current situation of things with this young woman. As his friend progressed with the story, kelvin's eyes went slowly from being red to blood shut and be was as mad as a mule. He cursed and swore,he flung anything he could lay his hands on and broke all the things in sight. His friend fled. Kelvin was so angry he called in sick the next day for fear of what he would do if he saw that girl at work the next day. Slowly he gave in to heavy drinking and clubbing. His friend went ahead with wedding plans with this young woman after moving out of the flat he shared with Kelvin, unnoticed. Kelvin could not bear the toture of seeing this girl and he resigned. He became a very angry man.
Two days to the wedding, Kelvin was driving back from a bar, drunk, when his car ran directly under a truck. He died.
